02/06/10

Despite the dire headlines, frightful economy, and cultural disaster of every reality show on TV today, John Stossel isn't buying the "conventional wisdom" that modern life is teetering on the brink of implosion. In fact, says the host of his own new hit show on Fox Business Network, the data proves just the opposite is true: in the year 2010, things have never been better for Americans.

And that's the position he brings to this week's STOSSEL (7 p.m. Central each Thursday, Fox Business Network), when he hosts a panel of experts and presents literally reams of statistics and brightly colored charts to prove it.

During a rare celebrity-on-the-street interview ("Actually, I'm in a Manhattan coffee shop having breakfast," John explains over the background clatter of crockery and fellow diners) the veteran TV newsman gives David and Earl an advance peek at the program's content during a visit on this Saturday's Weekend Edition of MONEY & MORE-- and he doesn't back down in the face of Earl's skepticism or the near-pathological musings of "Darth David" regarding the prospects for a happy humanity in the era of MTV's "Jersey Shore."

Next up is Chicago-area entrepreneur Michael Rhodes to discuss a wide range of topics -- including his innovative new social networking site he founded, Myabui LLC, which creates a "cyber privacy wall" for users who don't want their online communications showing up for the world to see via Google searches. Mikel --a prominent businessman who serves extensively on area boards and is active in numerous causes-- also weighs in on such topics as the economic outlook and the feasibility for U.S. employment growth as a result of the federal "tax credit for new hires" plan.

All this, plus David and Earl's take on the case of Illinois Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor... who is in hot water for an earlier arrest when he allegedly pulled a knife on his hooker girlfriend. (On MONEY & MORE, we don't make up this stuff-- because, when it comes to Illinois politics, fact is always goofier than fiction...)

Don't miss it, on the Weekend Edition of MONEY & MORE!

Who says good things don't happen to good people? Sure-- it helps if thei they're also highly competent and professional at what they do... which probably better explains why long-time friend-of-the-show Stuart Varney now hosts his own instant-hit show on the Fox Business Network.

Stuart returns to MONEY & MORE on this weekend's show to talk about the launch of VARNEY & COMPANY, the entertaining and hard-hitting program he now anchors at the start of each weekday morning. Along the course of his conversation, he officially thanks Earl and David for "the best guest-spot introductions I've ever received" (which the boys translate as "thanks for helping convince Fox Business to finally recognize my genius!")

All this, plus the often-hilarious and always provacative insights David and Earl bring to the news --money-related and otherwise-- help make this Weekend Edition of MONEY & MORE a don't-miss hour of information and entertainment!

In the wake of what every pundit --conservative OR progressive-- seems to be calling the "stunning" victory of the GOP's Scott Brown in the U.S. Senate special election for Ted Kennedy's former seat, MONEY & MORE goes out of our way to bring a little perspective to the whole thing.

Our considered analysis: the vote was indeed a "game-changer" for the Obama Administration and the Democrat-majority-led Congress... but it's what happens next that will decide what kind of games are being played here.

To assist us in our discussion of this point (and more), former U.S. Congressman and current political columnist John LeBoutillier joins David and Earl for a no-holds-barred review of the one-year-anniversary of the Barack inaguration.

With Mr. Obama's first State Of The Union address only a week away, we deal with what he can say to salvage something from the apparent wreckage of what had seemed an all-powerful 'transformational change'... and what he definitely should NOT say, too.

Don't miss it, on the Weekend Edition of MONEY & MORE!

With a tragedy of epic proportions still unfolding in the earthquake-stricken country of Haiti, MONEY & MORE visits with two guests this weekend whose insights into the catastrophy are both informed and enlightening.

First up is Connell McShane, Fox Business News anchor and reporter, who fills in up-to-the-moment situation reports on the Haitian news-- as well as fields a round-robin interrogation by David and Earl on other headlines at home and around the world.

Then we turn to Tim Harlow, pastor of one of the fastest -growing ministries in the United States, and a missionary minister who has just returned from Latin America. Rev. Harlow presents a vastly differing point-of-view from that expressed immediately after the earthquake by another well-known man-of-the-cloth: Pat Robertson, whose comments on the "deal with Satan" he feels the Haitian people made more than 200 years ago may have been why the lethal earthquake occurred.

Rev. Harlow presents a far more rational --read: "sane"-- set of arguments regarding divine intent and intervention in present-day events.

All this, plus the hilarious cross-talking banter you've come to expect from Earl and David-- all featured on Saturday's Weekend Edition of MONEY & MORE!

Tired out from a post-Christmas Day confab with the relatives? Irritated after fighting the traffic, cursing the weather, and being deafened by the season's non-stop carolling?

Then you'll not want to miss the special "It's Been A Long December" show on this weekend's MONEY & MORE-- a rip-snortin' celebration of the "bah, humbug!" that lurks in even the soul of an seasonally-exhausted Santa.

Among the topics up for Earl and David's debate: the explosion of executive bonus payouts from tax-bailout'd firms this year, a bemused puzzlement over a record boxoffice year for Hollywood (despite the bombs that were dropped during '09), and why owning a dog is worse for the environment than driving a Hummer.

And you won't want to miss the fireworks over what to expect as 2010 rings in-- but here's a hint: it ain't gonna be what you expect, people...

This is a Weekend Edition of MONEY & MORE that even the American Medical Association will urge you not to miss!

Author and nationally syndicated radio talk-show host Michael Medved visits with David and Earl to discuss his new book, THE FIVE BIG LIES ABOUT AMERICAN BUSINESS-- and to explain exactly why there's such a crying need for yet another book defending capitalism today. Along the way, the boys find time to riff on the current Senatorial infighting on ObamaCare and its ramifications for the country.

And lest he be forgotten --yeah: fat chance, eh?-- Tiger Woods' problem again rears its ugly head in the conversation! This time, the swingin' golfer is the topic of the girls of THE VIEW-- with particular attention to commentary by Barbara Walters how to respect a wife's privacy while so engaged. The boys do a compare-and-contrast to Bab's recent autobiography, wherein she revealed details of her own multi-year affair with the married U.S. Senator Edward Brooke... and we ask the all-too-obvious throwing-stones-in-glass-houses question.

All that, plus sinctillating analysis and commentary on the day's headlines-- this weekend, only on MONEY & MORE!

As his long-awaited new show finally debuts on the Fox Business Network, long-time friend-of-the-show John Stossel visits with Earl and David to tell all about his decision to bolt the ABC-TV 20/20 newsmagazine that has been his television home for so many years-- and to verbally fence with the boys about such hot-button topics as the ClimateGate scandals, the healthcare debate, and the ramifications of a certain famous golfer who has a few too many clubs in his bag these days.

But John Stossel isn't about to let the visit pass without a few other more of his trademark observations and ascerbic insights-- including one about the famous ABC News anchor who (after John's libertarian tendencies became known) would turn away whenever he saw Mr. Stossel passing in the hall.

All this, plus the latest on the Copenhagen hookers and their "free coupon" offer to the climate conference attendees, the head of Google warning Americans that "if you can't do the time, don't do the crime," and much more! So tune in... because we're watching YOU, mister...

It's a winter Weekend Edition of MONEY & MORE!

MP3 12/05/09

Poor Tiger Woods! Just when every American should be talking about the White House gate-crashers, the question of whether the ClimateGate scandal will torpedo both the Copenhagen Climate Conference treaty-signing and the upcoming Cap & Trade vote in the Senate, or the projected revenue totals from Black Friday and Cyber Monday...

...well, instead we're all making up lame jokes about the poor guy's marital problems. (Example: "Didja hear? Tiger had to change his name to 'Cheeta' Woods.")

Hey-- we TOLD you they were lame jokes...

And sadly, on this weekend's MONEY & MORE, we're no exception.

Our only saving grace: we talk about all that other stuff, too-- as well as air David's rant about the unfairness of government regulations (while calling for a selective few more of 'em-- after all, isn't consistency the hobgoblin of small minds?) PLUS: Syndicated columnist Amy Dickenson ("Dear Amy") returns to visit with the boys, and a "butt-ectomy" goes terribly wrong in Latin America.

It's all in a day's work on the Weekend Edition of MONEY & MORE!

11/28/09

Long-time friend-of-the-show Steve Forbes returns to MONEY & MORE to discuss his new book, aptly entitled HOW CAPITALISM WILL SAVE US-- an ode to the magic of the free market that is today beseiged by a combination of economic recession and big-government initiatives in both Congress and the White House. But don't expect a dry recapitulation of laissez-faire philosophy here-- the boys get down-and-dirty with Steve on the why's-and-wherefore's of how Steve believes the nation's current path is a road to hell, and certainly not paved with good intentions.

In addition to this rip-snortin' exchange, this week's show goes Deep-Throat investigative on the still-growing (and still not being reported in most of the major media) scandal of Climate Gate-- the disclosure of thousands of purloined e-mails from Global Warming researchers who blithely talk about deleting a decade-plus worth of their admittedly suspect findings to prevent review of their means-and-methodology, blocking contradictory research papers by GW skeptics in "peer-reviewed" journals, and otherwise conspiring to fake global warming research.

Is global warming finally being exposed as a con game, intended only to transfer trillions of dollars to GW speculators (including Al Gore) and to "lesser-developed nations" at the expense of American taxpayers? Will this be the death-knell of Cap 'n Trade legislation, and turn next month's Copenhagen Conference into a farce? David and Earl discuss... only on MONEY & MORE!

MP3 11/21/09

For informed and insightful business journalism, it's hard to beat David Asman of the Fox Business Network-- from his daily three hours on the FBN airwaves, to his Saturday morning herding-cats anchor duties on such shows as Forbes On Fox, and more.

But did you know that, as a Wall Street Journal correspondent covering the turmoil of Latin America, parts of David Asman's life read like a John LeCarré spy novel? To hear more about it --including the thrilling tale of how he smuggled his former-Sandinsta bride-to-be out of Nicaragua, despite the efforts of the Sandinsta's secret police-- tune into this weekend's interview on the show. It's a lively, --and often hilarious-- interview segment on Saturday's Weekend Edition of MONEY & MORE.

But it doesn't stop there, as David and Earl grill this seasoned journalist about a wide range of today's headlines... from the "shell game" of health care funding in the pending Senate Obamacare legislation, his personal experiences with the state-run British style of healthcare, and his observations on the near-term potential on Wall Street. And you'll also hear why there's a lot of Marines who really, really appreciated some...uh... "special" photos David sent to his Marine son over there in the combat zone.

11/14/09

The term "hero" is more than slightly overused these days-- but real heroes do walk among us, and many of them have proudly worn the uniforms of the nation's military. To help us remember them, former U.S. Senator and retired Admiral Jeremiah Denton visits with us on the Weekend Edition of MONEY & MORE. Denton-- who as a downed naval aviator became a POW at the infamous Hanoi Hilton during the Vietnam War-- spent seven-and-a-half years as a prisoner, undergoing almost daily "interrogations"...and bravely blinked out the word "T-O-R-T-U-R-E" in Morse code during a television propaganda filming while in captivity. His recollections of this period when brutal treatment was the rule of his captors --and Denton's insights to the current state of American freedom-- are featured in this weekend's show.

How's this for a fantasy life: you ran a successful hedge fund in New York City. You're single, young, good-looking, and almost unbearably hip. Your current job puts you on national television five days each week... and it involves going to one of the most fashionable bars in the city, where you spend your working hours sitting between a cool older guy and one of the smartest, loveliest women around. You get to talk about money with some of the richest, most powerful people on the planet.

Welcome to the world of Cory Willard, co-host of the 'Happy Hour' financial show on the Fox Business Network, and a guy whose on-air reporting marks him for an enviable broadcast career.

We hate him. Truly, deeply, passionately. Or is it that we just wish we WERE him?

You be the judge... because Cory is our featured guest in a lively, oft-hilarious interview segment on Saturday's Weekend Edition of MONEY & MORE.

Be there, or be square. Dude.

10/31/09

It's a Halloween weekend on MONEY & MORE-- so Earl and David decided to provide their listeners with the scariest show on the air today!

The boys kick off this weekend's show with the tale of the Pepsi Co. secretary who "forgot" to pass along some documents to her boss... an act which ultimately cost the soft-drink giant more than $1.2 BILLION in a lawsuit.

They then move to a featured guest with a horrific tale to tell: Robert S. McElvaine, author of the terrifying history entitled THE GREAT DEPRESSION, to discuss the catastrophe of Black Tuesday (80 years ago, on Oct. 29, 1929) and how it eerily mirrors today's fiscal woes.

All this-- interspersed with blood-curdling, screamingly hilarious discussion of today's headlines-- including the economic window-soaping that is the emerging Democratic health-care legislation!

It's "Trick 'r Treat " -time on MONEY & MORE!

MP3 10/24/09

Fox News Channel is in the gunsights of the Obama Administration these days, with public pronouncements that FNC is "not a news organization" --and hence, there's no reason for Administration officials to apear on FNC broadcasts. The battle is still raging, and has expanded to include as targets talk-radio hosts, and even the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Amid all this, a growing question is being debated: is all of this an emerging campaign to impose government influence over the American media? Phil Kerpin of Americans For Prosperity returns to discuss this with David and Earl.

MP3
10/10/09

So what's the REAL story behind the reports --denied by the governments involved-- that a cabal of foreign governments that includes the Chinese, Russians, Arab states and even the French have met to "replace" the dollar as the world-standard currency? David and Earl discuss this and more with Fox Business Network anchor Cheryl Casone to find out just what this could do to devastate the American dollar.

The boys also disclose an ironic twist in the tragic beating-death of a Chicago student-- and ponder whether a $500,000 grant to the Chicago schools is a move to assuage the conscience of the US Education Secretary... whose own role when he was Chicago school superintendent may have contributed to the violence at the high school.

All this and more on this weekend's MONEY & MORE!

MP3 10/03/09

Fox Business Network celebrates its second birthday this week-- and implements a whole new strategy to reinvigorate its presence on cable systems around the country. How? Well --as featured guest FBN anchor Jenna Lee tells David and Earl-- by bringing nationally known talk-radio celebrity Don Imus back to television with a simulcast each morning on the network. Jenna talks about her own role on the new show, and puts up with jovial trash-talk from the boys as we all explore Imus' risk/benefit ratio for Fox... and for the anticipated new viewers the sometimes-controversial host will bring to it.

9/19/09

With the devastating hidden-camera videos turning the left-wing ACORN group into a synonym for "corrupt organization," David and Earl turn to the question of what happens next, as far as official investigations and legal action. And who better to answer that than long-time friend-of-the-show Lis Wiehl, best-selling crime novelist, former prosecutor and Fox News legal analyst?

Surprise: all is not cut-and-dried here-- and, Lis reveals, the incriminating videos themselves may be inadmissible as evidence in any courtroom.

All this and more on this weekend's MONEY & MORE!

MP3 9/12/09

Fresh from those hard-hitting interviews on the Jimmy Kimmel Show and The View (sample question: "Did your wife enjoy being on that celebrity-survivor show?") indicted former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich visits with David and Earl to discuss how it feels to have been wiretapped while allegedly trying to auction off the U.S. Senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama, life after impeachment and removal from office, his upcoming trial on sundry federal charges, and --oh, yeah-- his just-released book about it all entitled THE GOVERNOR.

And unlike Joy Behar, what we ruffle is not the ex-Governor's hair...

It's all (to borrow a quote from the wiretaps) "eff-ing golden" on this week's MONEY & MORE!

MP3
9/05/09

You asked for it, so here it is: this week's hilarious featured interview with Martin J. Smith, one of the authors of OOPS! 20 LIFE LESSONS FROM THE FIASCOES THAT SHAPED AMERICA, which you voted your favorite segment over six years of MONEY & MORE! Plus, David and Earl riff on up-to-the-minute news, including the latest White House PR stumble involving a "Dear Leader" -appearing speech aimed at... American school kids.

It's Labor Day weekend on MONEY & MORE... and the boys are working hard, so you won't have to!

MP3 8/29/09

Amid the summer's furor over the Obama health care proposals, there are a few other plans that are also pretty controversial-- and potentially catastrophic to the American economy. One of them is the so-called "Cap & Trade" bill, an environmentally focused legislation that could be the single largest hidden tax ever imposed on Americans. But is it based on factually accurate science? David and Earl interview filmmaker Phelim McAleer, whose new documentary movie NOT EVIL, JUST WRONG examines the science and the politics driving this issue, passed by the House before the recess and due for Senate voting within weeks.

MP3
8/22/09
The show welcomes featured guest U.S.Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) to his debut visit on MONEY & MORE, speaking both about his new book SAVING FREEDOM: We CAN Stop America's Slide Into Socialism, and delving into the meaning behind this summer's 'citizen uprising' at Congressional town-hall meetings. PLUS: David and Earl reexamine the curious spin by U.S. Rep Eric Massa on his recorded statement that, to suppport the single-payer/government takeover of health care, he'd "vote against the interests of his district."
MP3 8/15/09

David and Earl are on a "free speech" binge this week, examining some of the more troubling issues of cyber-stalking and privacy-rights questions that have erupted in the midst of the Obamacare town hall meetings. Among them: did the Administration make a major misstep in asking Americans to report "fishy" e-mails and conversations to the White House? Is a sudden-- and under-the-radar-- reversal of government policy on installing computer "cookies" on computers of citizens who visit government websites the harbringer of e-tracking those citizens' activities? Randy Skoglund of the Americans for Technology Leadership visits... and we also hear some illuminating audio clips from Sen. Richard Durbin, Fox News' Megyn Kelly and Judge Andrew Napolitano, and more! (Question: was the man convicted this week of groping Minnie Mouse at Disneyworld merely exercising a weird form of "free speech"? You decide!)

Long-time friend of the show Steve Forbes returns to MONEY & MORE to discuss the raging battle over healthcare in America.. and to talk with David and Earl about his new book, POWER, AMBITION, GLORY, in which Steve and co-author John Prevas analyze the great leaders of the ancient world, their leadership "styles," and compare them to current leaders in business and politics. And as always, David asks the billionaire publisher of FORBES MAGAZINE to include him in his will...
MP3 7/25/09 John Stossel, co-host of ABC-TV's 20/20 newsmagazine, returns to MONEY & MORE to discuss his special in-depth investigation scheduled to air on July 31, which examines the problems and pitfalls of the government-supported healthcare system in Canada-- a system that many critics say is the perilous model for ObamaCare in the United States.

Amy Menefee of Parents First (a project of American s for Prosperity of Washington, D.C.) explains the in's and out's of the US House legislation on health care reform... and the news is good for neither your health nor your country. Good times, for sure!
MP3 7/11/09 David and Earl riff on everything from the Michael Jackson "funeral service" to the "myth" of those "bargain-basement-priced" McMansions in the foreclosure market to how cities like Chicago are maximizing revenue by minimizing the "yellow light" timing on traffic signs. It's a summertime potpourri on MONEY & MORE!
